For sale 8,33kHz radio. Almost fully functional as the radio has hidden issue from production date. There are particular frequencies on which there is no transmission according the factory service letter:

On 99 channels with 8.33 kHz separation the transmission frequency is one channel lower than indicated. Affected are the following channels:

xxx.860, xxx.885, xxx.910, xxx.935, xxx.940, xxx.960, xxx.965, xxx985, xxx.990

(xxx = 118 to 125)

yyy.940, yyy.965, yyy.990

(yyy = 126 to 134)

E.g. when the channel 118.860 (118.8583 MHz) is set on the unit, the actual transmission frequency is on the next lower channel 118.855 (118.8500 MHz).

In summary, if you like to use the radio locally or as a ground station on the frequencies not affected by this issue this will work perfectly fine. Display is in perfect shape and is readable in the sun as it is LCD version.

I wouldn’t know about the issue but my club has changed frequency for the affected 119.885. It took me a while to discover it and find the problem, it was impossible to find service letter on the FUNKE web site. Of course producer FUNKE generously offered repair for 800E+Vat or silly discount for the new radio. They have discovered the problem after 11 years in 2018 and stopped doing free of charge repairs in 2022 because it is too expensive for them, doesn’t matter that this issue was from very beginning and they were selling certified faulty aviation equipment for so long. If you like I can attach the discussion with FUNKE.

p.s. if you have the old ATR833 4DS (with four selector knobs) check if it’s affected by this issue as this might be unsafe if you fly where specific frequencies are in operation. It is ambiguous as reception works perfectly fine. 

Zusammenfassend lässt sich sagen: Wenn Sie das Funkgerät lokal oder als Bodenstation auf den von diesem Problem nicht betroffenen Frequenzen nutzen möchten, funktioniert es einwandfrei. Das Display ist in perfektem Zustand und dank der LCD-Ausführung auch in direktem Sonnenlicht gut ablesbar.

Ich selbst hätte von dem Problem nichts gewusst, aber unser Verein hat die Frequenz von betroffenen 119.885 geändert. Es hat eine Weile gedauert, bis ich den Fehler gefunden habe, da die entsprechende Service-Mitteilung auf der FUNKE-Webseite nicht zu finden war. Der Hersteller FUNKE bot mir großzügig eine Reparatur für 800 € + MwSt. oder einen „attraktiven“ Rabatt auf ein Neugerät an. Das Problem wurde von FUNKE erst 2018 entdeckt – 11 Jahre nach Produktionsbeginn – und kostenlose Reparaturen wurden 2022 eingestellt, da diese angeblich zu teuer seien. Unabhängig davon, dass das Gerät von Anfang an fehlerhaft war und so lange als zertifiziertes Luftfahrtgerät verkauft wurde. Auf Wunsch kann ich den Mail-Austausch mit FUNKE beilegen.

P.S. Wenn Sie ein älteres ATR833 4DS (mit vier Drehknöpfen) besitzen, prüfen Sie bitte, ob Ihr Gerät ebenfalls betroffen ist, da dies sicherheitsrelevant sein kann, wenn Sie in einem Gebiet fliegen, in dem bestimmte Frequenzen genutzt werden. Das Problem ist tückisch, da der Empfang völlig normal funktioniert.
